The A1, A101, A4 M1 and M12 (Slip Roads) form the DBFO Package 2 contract. Amey Roads NI Ltd (DBFO Co) have delegated the Winter Maintenance Service Provision to Amey local Government, based at their depot in Lurgan, which they are responsible for from 1st October to 1st May.
The philosophy behind Winter Maintenance operations is to carry out pre-salting before ice forms or snow settles on the road. To enable this to be undertaken effectively depends on a mixture of local knowledge and experience, good local weather forecasts, thermal mapping and an awareness of the state of the road at the time (i.e. is it wet or dry, salt covered or not etc).
